Jo Ann Marion Ten Pas, 89, of Cedar Grove, entered eternal life on Saturday
October 22, 2022, at her home with her family by her side.
Jo Ann was born February 9, 1933, in Cedar Grove to the late John and Maria
(Geldof) Joosse. She graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1950. On August
28, 1953, she married Carl E. Ten Pas upon his return after serving in the Armed
Forces in Korea. They lived in Indiana and Colorado Springs, Colorado before
returning to Cedar Grove where they raised their family.
Jo Ann was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church of Cedar Grove. She was a
dedicated mother and homemaker. In her free time, she was a gifted gardener,
cook, and enjoyed entertaining and traveling. Jo Ann was thoughtful, witty,
courageous, strong, and a woman of great faith.
She is survived by her faithful husband of 69 years, Carl Ten Pas; one son, John
(Sherry) Ten Pas of Cedar Grove; four daughters, Jane (Doug) Herzog of Cedar
Grove, Carla Obbink of Cedar Grove, Carol (Scott) Mentink of Oostburg, Mary
(Andrew) Lavey of Cedar Grove; 18 grandchildren, Robert Ten Pas (fiancé, Liz
Plant) , Katie Ten Pas, Clare Ten Pas, David (Lara) Herzog, Anna (Mike) Forbes, Dan
(Lily) Herzog, Jonathan (Briana) Herzog, JoEllen (Peter) DeHaai, Jaclyn (Steve)
Ratajczak, Melanie (Brayden) VanEss, Gail (Tim) Stokdyk, Beth (Bob) Larson,
Monica Mentink, Abigail Lavey, Stephen Lavey, Lydia Lavey, Ben Lavey, Jonah
Lavey; 20 great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, LaVerne Joosse. She is further
survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jo Ann is preceded in death by her parents, beloved son-in-law and
granddaughter, Brian and Megan Obbink; brothers, George (Eunice) Joosse,
Adrian Joosse, William (Lillian) Joosse, and John (Phyllis) Joosse; sisters, Tannie
(Clarence) DeMaster, Maude (Lester) Heinen, Ann (Alvin) Navis, Marie (Paul)
Nyhof, and Audrey Joosse; parents-in-law, Herbert and Mabel (Theune) Ten Pas;
and a sister-in-law, Muriel (Lloyd) Mentink.
A service to celebrate Jo Ann’s life will be held at the First Reformed Church of
Cedar Grove on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at 11:00 am with Pastor Henry
Bradford officiating.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 26 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm
at the Wenig Funeral Home of Oostburg and again on Thursday at church from
10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Jo Ann will be laid to rest at Cedar
Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to Sharon S. Richardson
Community Hospice, First Reformed Church of Cedar Grove, Pine Haven Christian
homes, or the Special Olympics.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff of Sharon S. Richardson
Community Hospice and dear caregivers, Jeri, Cindy L., Cindy K. , and Carol for
their kind and compassionate care.
