MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Wisconsin’s attorney general says his office will aggressively prosecute anyone who threatens or harasses election officials.
John Kaul told reporters that he is confident that election results this fall will be “fair and true,” and that he is aware of a rising number of threats against clerks and other election officials. The AG’s office is planning a public information campaign warning people that intimidating or threatening elections officials is a criminal act. He’s also coordinating with the Wisconsin Elections Commission to investigate any threats.
“We have the world’s greatest democracy in the U.S. and it’s something we should be proud of,” Kaul told reporters. “We have had that system tested over and over in Wisconsin through audits and recounts and reviews and consistently they show that our system works and the results reflect the will of the voters.”
Kaul also talked about his work defending election results from November 2020, challenged by candidate Donald Trump. Kaul said the “reality” of election results are important.
Kaul, a Democrat, is running for reelection in November against Fond du Lac DA Eric Toney, a Republican.
