James Vetting

James Hugo “Jim” Vetting, age 90, passed away at Pine Haven – Haven Campus in Sheboygan
Falls on July 10, 2022.
He was born on June 7, 1932 in Manitowoc, WI, a son of the late Hugo and Eleanor (Sorenson)
Vetting. Jim attended Manitowoc grade schools and graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High
School in 1950.
Jim was working as a machinist apprentice for Manitowoc Engineering when he and John
Eggers started Eggers Vetting Machine (EVM). They specialized in race car parts and developed
a new type of fuel-injection system which was very advanced for the 1950s.
On August 16, 1969, he was united in marriage to Victoria Lehmann.
Starting in 1968, Jim began teaching foundry classes at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institute,
retiring in 1996. He volunteered for many years with the Greenbush Fire Dept., also
volunteered for the Pinecrest Historical Society in Manitowoc. Jim was part of a group that
donated 40 acres for what is now the Pinecrest Historical Village.
Jim was an EAA Member and airplane enthusiast. He was a total gearhead and loved anything
planes, trains, and automobiles. He flew RC airplanes at Sharks Field in Sheboygan, where he
also helped mow the lawn. Jim also enjoyed bicycling and spending time with his loving family
who knew him as the “family grill master.”
Survivors include: His loving wife, Victoria; Children: Tobin (Suzanne) Vetting, Joshua
(Rebbecca) Vetting, and Sena (James) Cook; Grandchildren: Eian and Piper Vetting; as well as
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings and their spouses: Eunice Vetting,
Jean (John) Faville, and Peter Vetting.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Friday (July 22, 2022) at the Suchon Funeral Home in
Plymouth. Visitation will take place from 3-4:30 p.m. with a prayer service to follow at 4:30 p.m.
Rev. Charles Heup, Pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plymouth, will officiate.
