Turtles are the only reptile one is supposed to find in the waters of Long Lake, which sits on the border of Sheboygan and Fond du Lac Counties, but another species was found last Friday.
An American Alligator was found by several local children swimming in the waters of the popular lake in the Kettle Moraine State Forest. The animal, estimated to be between 18 and 24 inches long, is about 1,000 miles north of its native territory in the southern U.S., and its suspected that it is an escaped pet.
The ‘gator was turned over to J & R Aquatic Animal Rescue which posted the case on its facebook page in hopes of contacting the owner. If no one comes forward the alligator will hopefully find a home in an accredited sanctuary.
