Sheboygan Police
The Sheboygan Police Department issued a few reminders for those planning to celebrate Independence Day in Sheboygan on July 4th.
First, Broughton Drive from Wisconsin Avenue north and uphill to Barrett Street will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday the 4th. This is to allow for the “Freedom Run” sponsored by the Sheboygan YMCA that begins at 7:30 a.m, and motorists should plan on avoiding the area.
Those planning a reserved spot for viewing the Independence Day Parade may bring tarps and chairs to hold a spot between the sidewalk and the street along the parade route, but not until after 5:00 a.m. on Monday the 4th of July. Any items placed prior to that time will be considered abandoned property and removed.
As for those heading for the beach for the fireworks display, the SPD advised that no alcohol possession or consumption is allowed on any beach area. Pets are prohibited in all city parks and beaches except those designated and posted. This includes Deland and King Parks and their beaches.
As traffic in and out of the Deland Park area increases during Independence Day, especially for those coming to watch the fireworks display, the SPD is advising that people consider taking their bicycles instead of a car. The Police Cadet Post will have a free bike corral at the lakefront, located at 715 Broughton Drive next to the Police Command Post, near the Michigan Avenue War Memorial. The corral will be available from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m. Be advised that bicycles not collected by 11:00 p.m. will be impounded.
