Leona M. Sander, age 91, of Plymouth, passed away late Tuesday evening (June 14,
2022) at Sheboygan Senior Community where she had been a resident for the last
1½ years.
She was born on September 11, 1930 in the Town of Greenbush, a daughter of
the late Walter and Clara (Rieth) Stemper and attended Valley House School in
Greenbush.
On November 19, 1955, she married Gene Sander at St. John the Baptist Catholic
Church in Plymouth. The couple resided in Plymouth following their marriage. Gene
preceded her in death on November 28, 2006.
Leona was employed at Cleveland Container in Plymouth for many years and also at
A & P Cheese Company for 15 years and at Great Lakes Cheese Company for 11
years, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth and belonged
to the Christian Mothers Society in the Church.
Survivors include: Son: Randal (Kim) Sander of Glenbeulah; Daughter-in-law: Jacqui
(Jim) Engelhardt of Sheboygan Falls; Four grandchildren: Brett Sander and Brittany
Sander (special friend: Tyler) both of Sheboygan Falls, Travis (Dawn) Sander of Kiel,
and Tasha (Dick) Abhold of Plymouth; Eight Great Grandchildren; Sister-in-law:
Marilyn Rooker of Waldo; Step brother–in-law: Clifford (Nancy) Meyer of Plymouth;
as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Leona was preceded in death by: Her husband; Two sons: Gary and Kurt; Brother:
Milton; Two brothers-in-law: Ray Rooker and Eldor (Therese) Sander; and Two
sisters-in-law: Helen (Philip) Maurer and Connie Stemper.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday (June 22, 2022) at 2:00 P.M. at
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Father Philip Reifenberg will
officiate and burial will be in the Parish cemetery.
Visitation will take place at CHURCH on Wednesday (June 22) from 12:00 Noon until
the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Leona’s name for St. John
the Baptist Christian Mother’s Society.
