Dolores M. Thiel, age 95, of Sheboygan, passed away on June 2, 2022 at Shores of
Sheboygan.
She was born in in Sheboygan, WI, on June 21, 1926. Dolores was the youngest of three
children (Clarence, Florence and Dolores) of Frank and Meta (Barthels) Koechel.
Dolores went to school in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She attended Jefferson Elementary and
graduated from Sheboygan North High School. In 1944
On June 22, 1946 Dolores married Walter A. Thiel at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed
Church (which later became St. John’s UCC). Reverend E.R. Krueger married Dolores and
Wally, and was also the minister who baptized and confirmed Dolores. Walter preceded
Dolores in death on December 18, 1990.
Dolores worked at the Sheboygan Retirement Home for many years and retired in 1987.
Dolores was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Sheboygan, where she also
worked as the Church’s Secretary, served on the Altar Guild, and was a member of the
Couples Club and Mother’s Club.
Dolores enjoyed spending time with family, and attending as many of her grandchildren’s
events that she could. Dolores also enjoyed traveling, keeping up with current events and
watching the Brewers, Bucks, and Packers.
Dolores is survived by: Three sons and their wives: Wallace (Judy) Thiel, Presque Isle, WI,
Randy (Rosaria) Thiel, Clermont, FL, and Jeff (Grace) Thiel of Plymouth; Brother-in-Law:
Robert Thiel, Sheboygan; Nieces: Janice (Mike) Marcheske, Town of Mosel, Lana Holler,
Mazomanie, WI, Patricia (Lynn) Alday, Youngstown, FL, and Linda (Craig) O’Leary
Evansville, WI; Nephews: James Hoehnke, Germantown, and William Thiel, Sheboygan.
Dolores had: Four Grandchildren: Benjamin Thiel, Oshkosh, Katherine Thiel, Woodruff, WI,
JoAnna (Brandon) Bayliss, Winter Garden, FL, and Brent Thiel, Milwaukee; One step-
grandchild: Aaron (Aleah) Likas, Glen Carbon, IL; Five great-grandchildren: Emma and Julia
Thiel; Luke, Lainey and Azelie Bayliss; Two step-great-grandchildren: Reed and Penn Likas.
Dolores was preceded in death by her: Husband, Walter A. Thiel; Parents: Frank and Meta
Koechel; Father/Mother In Law: William and Clara Thiel; Brother: Clarence Koechel; Sister:
Florence Hoehnke; Sisters-in-law: Betty Koechel, Lorene Wipperman, and Darlene Thiel;
Brothers-in-law: Eugene Wipperman and Chester Hoehnke; Nephews: Gerald Hoehnke and
Jack Wippermann.
Funeral services will be held on Monday (June 6, 2022) at St. John’s UCC in Sheboygan.
Visitation will take place from 10:00-11:30 AM, with services to follow at 11:30 AM. Rev.
Beth Petzke will officiate. Burial will take place in the Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Dolores’ name for St. John’s UCC in
Sheboygan.
