Students in the Kiel Area School District were evacuated yesterday after receiving the threat of a bomb being placed at the middle school on Monday. According to Kiel Police Chief Dave Funkhauser, school district staff there has also reported having received several communications that were vulgar, hateful, and disturbing.
Those messages coincide with controversy that arose when the Kiel Area School District launched a Title IX investigation into three students accused of sexual harrassment. Administrators say the violation resulted when the three 8th Graders used non-preferred pronouns such as “him” or “her” toward a student who preferred “they” or “them”. The District says it had no choice but to file the complaint under Title IX which is typically used to address such actions as rape, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, inappropriate touching, and quid pro quo sexual favors. The issue has drawn national attention, and the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty has taken to the defense of the accused.
As for the bomb threat, no bomb was found in any of the schools, but Monday’s school board meeting was moved to a virtual meeting to avoid further threats of violence.
