As millions of birds pass through Wisconsin on their way to their summer homes to the north, they’ll be celebrated on World Migratory Bird Day this Saturday, May 14th. Wisconsin’s observance of the event will be centered right here at Kohler-Andrae State Park with a week-long observance.
The focus will be the so-called “Big Sit” hosted by Moraine Shores Audubon on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the roof of Sanderling Nature Center where persons are urged to bring their own binoculars and lawn chairs. Events conducted with Audubon and the Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory will continue on Sunday.
DNR Natural Resources Educator Phyllis McKenzie said the events at Kohler-Andrae will offer a unique and fun opportunity for people of all ages to learn about and experience the magnificence of the annual migration and how we can all work to help protect them.
