A Manitowoc woman is among 49 persons who received pardons which were announced this past Friday by Governor Tony Evers.
Catherine Tease was 19 years old and working at a shoe store when she falsified refunds for herself. In announcing her pardon, Governor Evers stated that “Nearly four decades later, she now resides in Manitowoc working as a health and well-being educator at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Manitowoc Campus.”
A pardon is a constitutionally-granted power of the governor to forgive individuals convicted of a crime. This act of forgiveness restores rights lost when someone is convicted of a felony, but does not expunge court records.
Tease’s pardon along with others in this most recent round, brings to 498 the total number of pardons granted so far during Tony Evers’ tenure as Governor.
