GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Wednesday morning the NFL announced the Green Bay Packers first ever trip to London, England will take place on Sunday, October 9 when they meet the New York Giants. The game will be played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with an 8:30 AM Wisconsin time kickoff (2:30 PM local time). The Packers were the last NFL team to be awarded a game in London but with a 17 game regular season schedule being played for the second time, giving the Packers nine home games for the first time in 2022, Green Bay will surrender one to finally take part in the league’s international series.
The Packers have played three pre-season games outside of the United States. In 1997 they played Buffalo in Toronto, the following year they met Kansas City in Tokyo and in 2019, Green Bay played the Raiders in Winnipeg.
The Packers say they will have an “extremely” limited number of tickets available for the game to season ticket holders. For those ticket holders who opted in to receive promotional e-mails, a survey will be sent this week inviting them to enter into a lottery drawing for the opportunity to purchase tickets to the London game. Prices and locations have yet to be established.
The NFL assisted the Tottenham English Premier League soccer club in construction of the 62,850 seat stadium which opened in 2019 and has hosted games each year since. The New Orleans Saints will play the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday October 2 in the first of two league games at Tottenham.
