Wisconsin State Assembly Representative Tyler Vorpagel of Plymouth has announced that he will not seek reelection to a fifth 2-year term in the upcoming November election.
In his announcement on Monday, Vorpagel said that “It has been an honor and a truly humbling experience to have earned the trust and support of my friends and neighbors and represent my hometown in the State Legislature these past 7 plus years.” And he added “Early after my first election I was told by a very wise person that ‘this isn’t a life sentence’ and for me it is time to move on with the next chapter of my life.”
Vorpagel was elected in 2014 to represent the 27th Assembly District, which has included most of northeastern Sheboygan County since a court-ordered redistricting in 1983. It has remained in republican hands ever since. Vorpagel’s retirement opens the door to the possibility of a democrat representing parts of Sheboygan County for the first time since 26th District Representative Terry Van Akkeren was replaced by Mike Endsley in 2011.
