Nearly 14% of Sheboygan County deaths due to COVID-19 over the duration of the pandemic have occurred during the first three months of this year so far, as another was added to the toll on Monday. The latest casualty is the 262nd in all, and the 36th this year. The latest to succumb was someone in their 70s. As of March 28, one victim was between 10 and 19 years old, six were in their 30s, nine were in their 40s, eighteen were in their 50s, forty-three were in their 60s, seventy were in their 70s, and one-hundred-fifteen were at least 80 years old.
75 cases are now active in the county, the lowest so far this year, and the fewest since 70 on July 29 last year. 13 new cases were recorded, while 17 more recovered. The 7-day average of daily new cases of COVID-19 is 3, up slightly from the average of 2 that prevailed all last week.
Another 4 persons had to be admitted for hospital treatment, raising that total to 1,209. The five current patients are two fewer than on Friday.
Some revisions were seen in vaccination data posted Monday by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. The first-dose total was revised downward by 8 compared to Friday to a total of 72,418, or 62.8% of the population. The number of 2-dose recipients was lowered by 1, ,to 69,367, or 60.2%, and the number of boosted residents increased by 25 to 37,672, or 32.7%.
During the past week of March 20, a total of 336 vaccine doses were administered to Sheboygan County Residents. Contrast this with a peak weekly distribution of 9,530 during the week of April 4, 2021, a rate over 28 times that of the past week.
The nursing homes under facility-wide investigations the same as last week. The four currently being monitored are:
- Meadowview
- Plymouth Health Services
- Sheboygan Health Services
- Sheboygan Progressive
The number of education settings with active investigations dropped by three in the past week to only 2. Those schools are:
- James Madison Elementary
- Plymouth Riverview Middle
