Carl Martin Blok, 87, entered his heavenly home on March 5, 2022, at Cedar Grove
Gardens. Carl was born to Abe and Maude Blok on November 29, 1934. He graduated from
Oostburg High School. He was united in marriage to Delores Tenpas on May 2, 1959.
Carl was a Ford Dealer for over 40 years. After selling Del Car Motors he enjoyed working
at Ongna Wood Products until he retired.
He was the 1st graduate of Oostburg Christian Grade School and served on the school
board and supported the school financially. He also served on the Oostburg Village Board.
He was a member of Oostburg Christian Reformed Church serving as elder and deacon.
Longtime member of the Pine Haven Men’s Choir. He could always be heard humming or
singing hymns around the house.
Carl loved the Lord and his family. He enjoyed attending family events, fished with his sons,
gardening, liked playing Dominoes and Rummikub, traveling around the U.S. to see family
and visiting national, state and county parks. He faithfully loved and cared for his first wife,
Delores, until her death in 2008. He was endearing and loving to his current wife, Dorothy
(Katsma), married on January 8, 2011.
Surviving him are his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Lois (Jim) Hodgell; grandchildren, Dale
(Karla) Hodgell, Peter (Bethany) Hodgell, Brenda (Tyler) Burdick; son, Robert (Dawn) Blok;
grandchildren, Alex (Lindsay), Jordan (Special Friend, Callie); son, Jim (Julie) Blok;
grandchildren, Courtney (Nate) Quirt, Trevor & Abby; and 12 great-grandchildren; siblings;
Margret Ogez of Tennessee, Ellen Mc Neese of Oostburg, Ernie (Dodie) Blok of
Sheboygan, Phyllis (Carl) Nyhof of Oostburg, Glen (Judy) Blok of Menomonee Falls. Carl is
further survived by stepchildren; Terry (Nancy) Katsma, Tom (Mary) Katsma, John (Marlis)
Katsma, Dale (Christine) Katsma, 13 grandchildren & 17 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Delores; parents, Abe & Maude Blok; parents-in-
law, Bernard & Clara Tenpas; brothers-in-law, Jack Ogez and Jim McNeese; sisters,
Ruth(Dick) Schroeder and Diane (Jim Vivian) and sister-in-law, Marge Symens.
A funeral service with military honors to honor Carl’s life will take place at the Christian
Reformed Church of Oostburg on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 2:00 pm with Rev. Drew
Zylstra officiating. Visitation will take place at church from 12:00pm until the time of service
at 2:00 pm. A private burial will take place at Hartman Cemetery.
