The City of Sheboygan is making more money available to local businesses struggling to maintain operations after the effects of the pandemic.
The full council is expected to approve a resolution tonight from the Finance and Personnel Committee that will make an additional $200,000 of American Rescue Plan Act funds available to keep small businesses running.
The money became available when FEMA picked up a portion of the bill for a nearly $10 million sewer interceptor project. The Finance and Personnel Committee assigned the funding to expand a program begun on January 24th that aided businesses with five or fewer employees. The new outreach targets businesses with 25 or fewer employees.
City Development Director Chad Pelishek said applications for the program are now being accepted, and can be made through the City of Sheboygan’s website. He said that if businesses are struggling and they’re planning to retain at least one employee for the next six months they could qualify for up to $10,000
The program has already awarded some $150,000 since it began in January.
