MADISON, WI (WSAU-WRN) — The Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin is calling on residents to exercise caution when donating to groups claiming to benefit Ukrainians.
President Jim Temmer says your donation will do the most good if you stick to larger, established groups. “There might be some great small charities out there, but are they going to have access and be able to get what is needed to the people that need it right now?”
He also says you should avoid any crowdfunding efforts especially those initiated by strangers, who could just take your money and run. Instead, only give to a trusted friend or relative who can confirm that your dollars went to the right place.
Temmer adds your best bet is to donate cash, as clothing or other goods will be difficult to distribute to those in need.
The BBB has compiled a list of trusted donation sources that can be found here. Other trusted organizations include UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, and the Red Cross.
