Several programs at Lakeland University have received a big boost to continue student-centered initiatives.
The $250,000 grant from the Kohler Trust for the Arts and Education will support the Kohler Teaching Scholars program, the Lakeland Promise Program, Lakeland University’s free student shuttle, and will help expand counseling services for students.
The $65,000 granted to the Kohler Teaching Scholars will provide $5,000 each to three incoming first-year students in Lakeland’s Cooperative Education program, described as a “unique, competitive pathway to home-grow more Black, Indigenous and People of Color teachers for the Sheboygan Area School District. Remaining funds will be used for ongoing scholarships and Lakeland University’s Kellet School.
Lakeland’s Promise Program received $100,000 to provide all tuition and fees for up to four years to qualified Wisconsin students, with 67 students in high financial need currently in that program.
$50,000 will be used to support transportation of Lakeland students participating in off-campus Co-Op employment, and $35,000 will be used to provide enhanced counseling support to Lakeland students impacted by the pandemic.
Lakeland President Beth Borgen said that Lakeland is “grateful to the Kohler Trust for the Arts and Education for their ongoing funding and partnership with us. Working together, we are creating the next generation of leaders and contributing citizens in our region.”
