You won’t be able to travel far beyond the county line before running into highway construction this year, and in some areas, work has already begun.
The Wisconsin DOT has gotten the go-ahead on several I-43 projects that will affect traffic north and south of Sheboygan County, while work will be completed by this fall to our west on the Highway 23 expansion to Highway 151 in Fond du Lac County. Sheboygan County’s portion of that was finished last year.
To our north, I-43 will be resurfaced over a 15-1/2 mile stretch between Wisconsin 310 in Manitowoc County and Wisconsin 96 in Brown County. Replacement and repair of varioius culverts, endwalls and cross drains, replacement of beamguards and right-of-way fencing is also included, along with installation of a living snow fence. That operation begins Monday, March 7 and is scheduled for completion this November.
To our south, 14 miles of I-43 between Grafton and Glendale will be undergoing major modernization, expanding from four to six lanes, and also involves reconstruction of five existing interchanges and replacement of several bridges. Work on that has already begun and won’t be finished until 2025.
Highways will remain open during construction, but you can expect delays especially during high-volume hours.
