
Mark Anthony Deckert, 74, of Sheboygan, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022,
following a short battle with leukemia, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born
January 17, 1948, in Sheboygan to the late Rudolph and Dorothea (Altmann) Deckert. Mark
graduated from Sheboygan North High School with the Class of 1966. He then went on to
graduate from Spencerian Business College.
On October 17, 1981, he was united in marriage to Laura Jane Barlow at Holy Name of Jesus
Catholic Church. Together they raised their two daughters, Kristin (Roger) Hunter and Lindsay
(Kevin) Schuh.
Mark worked in sales and retail management and was the “Chief Caregiver” of his daughters
when they were young. He had a strong faith and was an active member of Holy Name of Jesus
Catholic Church, serving as Chief of the Holy Name Ushers Society for 14 years, on the grounds
crew and cleaning crew. Mark was also a board member of the Calvary Cemetery Association.
Mark served as Director and Vice President of the Sheboygan Softball Association (SSA). He was
inducted into the SSA Hall of Fame and Wisconsin USSSA Hall of Fame as a player and coach.
Mark was an avid Brewers fan and enjoyed watching the Packers and Badgers. He loved the
outdoors, doing yardwork, landscaping, golfing, and spending time on a pontoon boat while in
the Chain of Lakes area, especially on Pine Lake. His greatest pride and joy were his family.
Spending time with them creating many cherished memories and reading to his grandchildren
meant the world to him. Mark always put others first; he was dedicated to his family, faith and
community.
Mark is further survived by his grandchildren; Greta and Heidi Hunter and Lydia and Xander
Schuh, brother Keith (Joy Weinfurtner) Deckert, sister Jeanne (Larry) Grunwald, and several
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, father
and mother-in-law Guy and Phyllis Barlow, brother-in-law Robert Barlow and close family friend
John Haen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 12:00 Noon at Holy
Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 818 Huron Ave., Sheboygan. Burial will follow at Calvary
Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of mass
at the CHURCH. If you are unable to join the family for the service, it will be livestreamed on
Mark’s obituary page on the funeral home website.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Parish or St. Elizabeth Ann
Seton School in Mark’s name.
