Assuming the Common Council acts as expected tonight, the City of Sheboygan will be grow by several acres and gain a park.
The City Plan Commission last week approved the plan to annex territory from the Town of Sheboygan that includes Esslingen Park south of Lower Falls Road, and a single-family residence across the street adjacent to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s Art Preserve. JMKAC had petitioned the City of Sheboygan to annex the lot with the single-family home, and after City officials discussed the matter with Sheboygan County, which owns Esslingen Park, it was agreed that including the park would clean up some municipal boundary issues.
City policy is to require the annex petitioner to pay the taxes, however it was decided that as the arrangement benefits the boundary issues, the City instead will pay the Town of Sheboygan’s portion of the taxes for five years.
