(WHBL) – Republicans at the Wisconsin Capitol have taken the first step toward their tough-on-crime package.
The State Assembly on Tuesday approved a series of plans that would support law enforcement and create new punishments. One of those plans would require at least 30 days in jail for anyone who knowingly attends a riot that ends with damage. Anyone who participates in the riot would be looking at 45 days in jail.
State representatives also passed a second plan that would require three-and-a-half years in prison for anyone who damages government property during a riot. Both plans are in response to violence in Kenosha and Madison in 2020.
Both plans are expected to be vetoed by Governor Tony Evers.
