Although it may seem to be about a month late, the kind of winter weather Wisconsin is known for looks to be finally locked in for a while, and several agencies are responding in kind.
It’s been cold enough – for long enough – that the State Department of Transportation expanded it’s “frozen road” law statewide on Saturday, meaning the road system throughout Wisconsin can now host trucks with heavier loads than normal. This is done once soils are frozen 18-inches deep, and will make it easier for the logging business and those hauling salt and sand for treating roads to get to their destinations.
Another sign is in the waters of Green Bay, where the U.S. Coast Guard will close all waters southwest of a line from Peshtigo Point to Sherwood Point near Sturgeon Bay at noon today. Ice on that portion is now between 6 and 12 inches thick.
