The surge of COVID-19 cases in Sheboygan County, caused by the highly-transmissible Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, continues in Sheboygan County, but not at the rate experienced last week. The highest single-day growth in confirmed positive cases this year was last Thursday, January 13th when posted cases grew by 478. By Friday the growth was 368, and averaged 363 per day over the weekend through Monday the 17th.
On Wednesday, January 19, an increase of 269 positive cases was recorded by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, raising the total case count to 26,219. Active cases continue to increase, with 4,638 now active, an gain of 135 over Tuesday. Recoveries grew by 134.
One additional patient was added to those hospitalized, now totaling 1,107, while the current patient count was stable at 45.
The level of community transmission and positive test rate were not revised.
The entire State of Wisconsin is experiencing a “Critically High” case level of COVID-19, with a Burden of 4,198.1 cases per 100,000 persons, and a trajectory that’s upward 77% from the previous week’s reading. Sheboygan County, by comparison, has a burden of 4,121.0 and an upward trajectory of 42%.
100 more persons received their first dose of vaccine since Tuesday, raising that total to 71,067, or 61.7% of the county. 58.2%, or 67,020, are now fully vaccinated with the addition of 95 more since Tuesday.
