Joseph C. Brachmann, age 84, of Sheboygan, died on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at his home. He was born in Sheboygan on November 19, 1937, the son of the late Clarence and Frances (Dreps) Brachmann.
Joe attended Mapledale and St. Dominic Catholic Grade School and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School. He also attended the University of Wisconsin – Sheboygan and the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Joe served in the U.S. Army for three years, spending two years in Turkey.
Joe became a journeyman electrician and was employed by Ace Electric, Faber-Benzschawel Electric, Specht Electric and Altmeyer Electric, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the IBEW-Local 494.
On June 26, 1965, Joe was united in marriage to Carol Dibelius at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Neenah, Wisconsin. Joe was a member of the Sheboygan County Labor Council and held the position of treasurer. He was co-chairman of the annual Labor Day Picnic and the annual Kick-Off Banquet. He was also on the Calvary Cemetery Board and a member of the City Redevelopment Authority for ten years and was a member of the Sheboygan County Oldtimers Baseball Association. For many years, Joe was a volunteer bell ringer for the Salvation Army during the Christmas season.
Joe was a lifelong member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Sheboygan. He was chairman of the Maintenance Committee and was a Parish Council member. He served as an usher and was a cup distributor at the parish. For many years, he helped set up for the parish Fall Festival as an electrician.
Joe was active in sports for many years. He played softball and basketball with local teams and bowled in leagues. He also enjoyed golfing, and had an annual season pass at Town & Country Golf Course where he golfed daily with retirees and was in golf leagues as well. Joe had his first hole-in-one on November 10, 2020 at the age of 82. Joe liked watching NASCAR racing, especially Jeff Gordon. He coached his sons’ baseball teams in the Recreation Department. Joe enjoyed watching his grandchildren play in the sports they chose to play, traveling to the Chicago area many times. His favorite baseball team was the Chicago Cubs. Joe was an avid Packers fan, as well as the University of Notre Dame.
Joe loved the outdoors and gardening. His grandchildren loved his strawberries, and he worked on his lawn and flowers, giving them TLC.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; two sons, Scott (Melinda) Brachmann, of Winnetka, IL, and Patrick (Noreen) Brachmann, of Elmhurst, IL; six grandchildren, Mason, Pierce, and Shelby, of Winnetka, Matthew (Abigail), Kevin, and Kristen, of Elmhurst; sister-in-law, Mary Brachmann, of Sheboygan, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Julian, Donald and Willard Brachmann, and his sisters-in-law, Kathleen and Mary Ann Brachmann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2136 N. 21st Street, Sheboygan. Family and friends may gather at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 12:30 p.m. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name at St. Dominic Catholic Church.
