The surge of COVID-19 attributed to the highly-transmissible Omicron variant continues in Sheboygan County, and another death has been blamed on the virus.
223 more confirmed positive cases were logged, while 74 recoveries occurred since Monday, raising the active cases by 152 to 4,503, and the total number of confirmed cases to 25,950. If “probable” cases, those qualifying as confirmed – save for a laboratory test – were added to those figures, then 5,041 of 28,593 cases would be considered active.
One more death due to COVID-19 was confirmed in the last day by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health. The latest casualty was someone at least 80 years old. So far, COVID-19 has claimed ninety-six county residents 80 or older, forty-six in their 70s, twenty-eight in their 60s, eight in their 50s, seven in their 40s, four in their 30s, and one between 10 and 19 years old.
Another 3 persons needed admission to hospitals for treatment, raising the patient total for the pandemic to 1,106. With the latest death and discharges accounted for, the patient population remained stable at 45.
The level of community transmission in Sheboygan County remains “High”, with a case rate – the total number of new cases in the last 7 days per 100,000 persons – of 2,430.21, an increase of 245.37 since Monday. 34.22% of tests returned positive, a 2.62% increase.
70,967 persons in Sheboygan County, or 61.6%, have received at least one dose of vaccine, while 66,925, or 58.1%, are fully vaccinated. Those numbers increased by 48 and 38 respectively in the last day.
