WASHINGTON DC, (WRN) – An unprecedented attack on American democracy took place one year ago today.
January Sixth 2021, Eighth District Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher of Green Bay was incredulous, as supporters of Donald Trump attacked police officers and swarmed the U.S. Capitol
“This is banana republic crap, that we’re watching happen, right now.”
Second District Democrat Mark Pocan of Madison blamed the president for inciting the violence
“It’s sad day for America, when the President is citing domestic terrorism.”
The following day Pocan and Gallagher joined the majority of Wisconsin’s delegation to certify Joe Biden as the winner of the presidential election. Republicans Scott Fitzgerald and Tom Tiffany objected.
A new poll by the Associated Press and the University of Chicago’s research center finds some 57 percent of respondents think former president Donald Trump deserves “a great deal” or “quite a bit” of the blame for the attack.
