2022 in Sheboygan County began with one more death, more active cases of COVID-19 than any day in the previous year, and the most since December 21 of 2020 when 1,295 cases were being monitored.
The Sheboygan County Division of Public Health issued its first COVID-19 report of the year noting 1,250 active cases, up 249 since last Thursday’s summary. Of the 1,000 test results received since last Thursday, there were 541 new positives, upping the running total to 21,628, while 459 tests were negative, and 291 persons recovered. One person in their 70s did not survive their bout with the coronavirus, becoming the 183rd victim of the pandemic in the county. Of the casualties so far, one person was between 10 and 19, four were in their 30s, seven were in their 40s, eight were in their 50s, twenty-seven were in their 60s, forty-five were in their 70s, and ninety-one were at least 80 years old.
Since last Thursday, 10 more persons were hospitalized, and 36 persons remain in treatment, one more than last week. 1,053 persons have required hospitalizations so far in Sheboygan County.
The level of community transmission in Sheboygan County is considered “High”, with a case rate of 443.04 new cases per 100,000 population in the last 7 days. That’s up 74.56 points since the last reading. The percent of tests returning positive in the last 7 days increased nearly 8-1/2% to 23.51%.
244 more persons received their first dose of vaccine since last Thursday, bringing that total to 70,094 persons, or 60.8% of the county. 151 more persons became fully vaccinated, putting that number at 66,165, or 57.4% of the population.
