
William (Bill) DeVriend, age 94, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away peacefully at home on
Thursday, December 23, 2021.
Bill was born in Sheboygan Falls on May 31, 1927, to the late James and Minnie (Doelder)
DeVriend. He graduated from Central High School, Sheboygan. He faithfully served his country
in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service, Bill worked as an automotive
technician at Rodewald Buick and later at Sears Automotive Center.
On April 30, 1976, Bill married Jane Semmelhack in Grand Rapids, MI. They made their home in
Sheboygan Falls.
Bill is survived by his loving and faithful wife Jane of 45 years, sister Joanne Rosenthal, sister-in-
law Sandra McKinley, brothers-in-law James (Karen) Semmelhack, Richard Semmelhack, and
Robert (Roxi) Semmelhack. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and
friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Arthur and Evelyn
Semmelhack, sisters Pearl (Seborn) Shans, Sophie (Elmer) Wentz, Corrine (Ralph) Katt, and
brothers John, Adrian (Lydia) and Martin (Muriel). He was also preceded in death by his
brother-in-law Jack Rosenthal.
Bill was a much-loved member of Hope Strict Baptist Church, Sheboygan, where he served as
deacon. He was a faithful helper to his pastor and shared a special bond with all the children,
who thought of him as a grandfather.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Ballhorn Chapel from 4:00 to 7:00
PM and again at the church from 10:00 AM to the time of the service. Services will be held at
11:00 AM at Hope Strict Baptist Church, 1803 Georgia Avenue in Sheboygan, with Pastor G.
TenBroeke officiating.
A memorial fund is being established in his name for the Trinitarian Bible Society and the
Aurora at Home hospice care.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation for the care provided by Aurora at Home,
especially Tess.
