Wisconsin homeowners are getting a nice present this year according to the Department of Revenue.
The “gift” is in the form of the Lottery and Gaming Credit seen on the property tax bill which, on average, increased 38% compared to last year. Revenue Secretary Peter Barca said that the estimated credit, which averages $229 per household, is the highest amount ever certified for distribution in the Lottery’s 33-year history. Lottery Director Cindy Polzin said you can thank the players and retail partners who made 2021 a record year for the venture that has provided over $4.8 billion in property tax relief since it began in 1988.
If you pay taxes in two or more installments, the credit is applied to the first one, while counties and municipalities are paid on the fourth Monday in March.
