The progression of active COVID-19 cases in Sheboygan County so far this week displays a pattern not seen since the week of October 24th. Between then and this week, active cases had risen consistently Mondays through Fridays. This week, though, the active case numbers numbers peaked on Tuesday at 1,158 and have fallen for a second consecutive day, now down to 1,147.
73 positive test returns were logged in the last day, balanced by 77 recoveries, resulting in a drop of 4 active cases to 1,147. 20,289 cases in all have been recorded here during the pandemic.
The number of those hospitalized remained at 30 as 3 patients were admitted and 3 were discharged. 1,009 persons in all have required hospital treatment for COVID-19 symptoms, and 180 have died as a result of the disease.
While active case numbers have moderated, three other measures of the strength of the pandemic in Sheboygan County have increased upon the latest revisions. The “Level of Community Transmission”, which accounts for the total number of new cases per 100,000 persons within the last 7 days, rose on Thursday by 147.39 points to 779.43. The rate of tests returning positive results also rose since Wednesday to 13.41%, up about a half a percentage point.
And the weekly “Case Activity” in Sheboygan County, which combines the number of people experiencing COVID-19 in the previous two-week period – known as the “Burden” – with the trajectory over that period, calculated as a percent of change in the burden compared with the previous reading, rose this week. For December 1-14, the Case Activity was “Critically High”, a level that had relaxed somewhat to “Very High” the previous week, but has now bumped up once again. That’s due to a “Burden” of 1,065.4 cases per 100,000 persons in the last two weeks, the trajectory of which increased by 33%.
115 more persons received their first dose of vaccine in the last day, and 126 more completed their series of shots, becoming fully vaccinated. 59.7%, or 68,909, have received at least one shot, while 56.6%, or 65,257, are fully vaccinated.
