Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season for many, but before the turkey was even in the oven, volunteers with the Sheboygan Salvation Army were already ringing in the holidays with the annual bell ringer campaign.
“Hope Marches On” is this year’s slogan, and Major Sally Davis told us that there are 18 locations in Sheboygan County where bell ringers man the kettles, collecting donations that will help the local operation serve those in need throughout the year. And while the red kettles and bells are the most visible part of the campaign with a goal of $135,000, the Sheboygan Salvation Army expects those contributions to make up less than 20% of the overall goal of $700,000. The remainder will be collected through their corporate giving campaign, enabling the Army to help the homeless, hurting and hungry in Sheboygan County, not only at Christmas but year ‘round.
All efforts require volunteers, and even two hours of time makes a big difference. If you’re interested, you can sign up online at www.registertoring.com.
