Allan “Al” Claerbaut, 78, of Cedar Grove, was called Home into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 26, 2021, at his home.
Al was born to Melvin and June (Huenink) Claerbaut on November 4, 1943, in Sheboygan. He graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1961. Al was united in marriage to Sharon Prange on June 6, 1964, at Calvary OPC. Together they enjoyed 57 and a half years of wonderful marriage and were blessed with four sons. He started working as a dairy farmer and later became a carpenter for his good friend. Following carpentry, he worked in maintenance at a few companies and ended his working career part time at Home Depot.
Al was an active member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove where he served as an elder, clerk of the session, Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the building committee. Al loved being a part of the choir and was happy to be in the choir alongside each of his sons, a daughter-in-law, and a granddaughter. He also served as the clerk of the Town of Holland for 15 years and later assisted his wife as deputy clerk for another 15 years. Al was also a board member of the Cooperative Exchange and served as secretary of that board.
Al had a love for music and shared his talent of singing through solos, duets, and quartets at church services and leading weekly hymn sings at Pine Haven campuses. He enjoyed camping with his “camping family”, watching Packer games, doing word search puzzles, and loved mowing his lawn. Al enjoyed painting anything he could find around the house or yard. He also enjoyed his various dogs and several grand dogs. Al and Sharon were privileged to be able to go on a trip of a lifetime to Alaska and trips to Branson, Seattle, and Florida with family and friends. Al will be dearly missed by his family.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; sons, Steve (Bonnie), Dave (Mary), John (Christy), and Tom; proud grandpa to 7 grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Evan Seibel), Alex, Jennifer, Anna, and Maya Claerbaut, Alexis (Hunter) Towne, and Lilly Claerbaut; great-granddaughter, Athena Rose Towne; sister, Nancy (Wayne) Navis; nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and June; parents-in-law, Herbert and Angus Prange; and sister- in-law Mary Prange.
A funeral service to celebrate Al’s life will be held at Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery.
