Mandatory Masking at Etude Elementary School in Sheboygan may be sticking around for a while.
Last Thursday the percent of students there with COVID-19 exceeded the 5% threshold that triggers mandatory masking for all students, staff and visitors to the building. Over 7% were experiencing COVID on both Friday and Monday with 13 students affected, and by Tuesday that number rose to 16. That’s over 9% of the student population.
A Sheboygan Area School District policy passed in October states that masks will be required for a minimum of 7 calendar days once the threshold is reached, and Etude Director Ted Hamm told families that he hoped masking could become optional on Monday, November 29th. But that will require numbers going down, not rising as is currently the trend.
Etude Elementary is a Charter School operating on the campus of Pigeon River Elementary School. Schools Superintendent Seth Harvatine said that Pigeon River is not under the masking mandate as only one student there is experiencing COVID.
