WAUKESHA, WI (WTAQ) — A sixth person has died from Sunday’s incident in Waukesha in which a man drove into a crowd at a Christmas parade.
That was announced by Waukesha County District Attorney Susan L. Opper during a court hearing for 39-year-old Darrell Brooks. According to Opper, the sixth victim is a child.
A sixth homicide charge is now expected in the case in addition to the five that were previously announced and read in the courtroom.
Details about the sixth victim were not read during Tuesday’s hearing. The previous five were between the ages of 52-81 and included members of the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies group along with a teller at a local bank.
At last check, more than 60 people were injured in the incident. Brooks is accused of driving his SUV through a police barrier and into the city’s annual Christmas parade. It’s believed that Brooks was fleeing a “domestic incident” at the time, and was not being pursued by Police.
Video of the incident shows a red SUV speeding down the route as a marching band and a group of flag twirlers marched down the street.
Bond was set at $5 million during that Tuesday court hearing. Brooks did not speak and kept his head down for much of the hearing.
