A solar power plant planned for the Town of Holland has taken a major step towards reality.
On Wednesday it was announced that Alliant Energy acquired ownership of the Onion River Solar Project from Chicago-based Ranger Power and D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments. The 150-megawatt solar electric generating facility will be built on 1,900 acres, occupying various parcels located roughly either side of County Highways GW and A between Highway G and Dekker Road in the town of Holland.
The project is the sixth and final project Alliant Energy acquired as part of an approved filing with the Public Service Commission to add 675 MW of solar energy generation in Wisconsin.
Construction will begin next spring with a targeted completion date in the fall of 2023. Once operational, Onion River Solar will generate enough electricity to power nearly 40,000 homes, and over its 30-year lifetime is expected to also generate an estimated $600,000 in annual shared revenues. Use of that money will be decided by local communities through their elected officials.
