Karen (Esser) Young, age 80, of Howards Grove left our earthly world on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at St.
Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.
Karen was born on July 23, 1941 in Madison, WI, a daughter to the late George and Violet (Pollow)
Esser. She attended Central High School, Madison, WI, graduating in 1959.
On August 6, 1960, she married her favorite Sailor, Allen LeRoy Young in Madison. They moved their
family to Sheboygan/Howards Grove area. Allen preceded her in death on May 21, 2019.
Over the years Karen held various positions, first and foremost wife and homemaker, taking care of Al &
five children kept her busy; somehow, she found time to take on other employment. Working for JC
Penney, Log Cabin, Executive Inn, Lakeland College, she and Al also owned and operated “The Hitch ‘N
Post” and a busy hobby farm.
In the course of 80 years Karen had many interests, she was able to share these interests with family
and friends. Karen served as a 4-H leader (cooking & sewing), she enjoyed trapshooting, camping,
bowling, traveling, horse pulls & horse shows.
Her enjoyment of dancing, music and socializing is how she met Al, they enjoyed many years dancing
together, sharing the joy of this with their children, making many happy memories.
Karen grew her love for sports, watching and attending the events her favorite athlete Al participated in.
This interest expanded with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, developing an avid
sports enthusiast who seldomly missed a Brewer, Packer, Rebels or River Dogs game.
She is survived by her sister Bonnie Senkowski, sister-in-law Mary Esser. Her children: Rene & Mark
Kleinhans, Sandi & Bill (Remis) Everson, James & Mary (Cook) Young, Sally & Tony Sikora, and Traci &
Paul Goplin. Her grandchildren: Nicholas and Matthew Kleinhans, Whitney (John) Morales, Hannah
Kleinhans, Abert (Halle) Everson, Jessica (Brad) Barts, Alyssa (Matt) Holler, Becca Young, Daine (Marie)
Sikora, Austin Sikora, Sebastian, Wyatt, and Isaiah Goplin. Her great-grandchildren: Addalyn, Finley,
Avery, Trinity, Bridget, Dayton, James, Olivia, Eastynn and Lillian, along with her many cousins, nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant daughter, Cindy, and infant great-grandson,
Clint, two brothers, Darvin Esser and Gordon(Nancy) Esser, sister-in-law, Barbara (Bruce) Albright, and
brother-in-law, Robert Senkowski and her in-laws, Ralph and Evelyn Young.
Funeral services will be held on Monday Morning (October 18, 2021) at 11:00 AM at St. John’s UCC
Schwarzwald, W3401 Orchard Road, Elkhart Lake, with Rev. Melinda Feller officiating. Burial will follow
at St. John’s UCC Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday (October 17, 2021) from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at
St. John’s UCC and again on Monday (Oct. 18, 2021) from 9:30 AM until the time of services at CHURCH.
