Intoxicated driving is blamed for a crash on I-43 in Manitowoc County early yesterday morning involving a Corvette and a parked Manitowoc County Squad vehicle.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig says a 23-year-old deputy had parked his fully-marked Tahoe in a median turnaround north of Highway 310 when a 41-year-old rural Frances Creek man left the northbound interstate in his Corvette and struck the Sheriff’s vehicle from behind. The accident which occurred around 2:30 Sunday morning closed both directions of I-43 for about 5 hours.
The Sheriff’s Deputy was transported to BayCare Hospital in Green Bay by ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Corvette wasn’t as fortunate. Jaws of Life were needed to remove him from the vehicle and he was flighted by ThedaStar Helicopter to BayCare with severe life-threatening injuries, and charged with OWI.
