After what appeared to be hopeful signs of a decline in the grip of COVID-19 in Monday’s semi-weekly update from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, the daily dashboard figures on Tuesday were a jolt. 106 new active cases since the last tally raised that total count to 755 cases now being monitored. That’s the most active cases since January 15th when 757 were recorded here. 15,946 total cases have now been logged, the product of 125 new positive tests since Monday. Recoveries during the same time amounted to only 19. 4 admissions for hospital treatment since Monday with no discharges raised the patient count to 15, and 790 persons have now required hospital treatment during the pandemic within the county. Also, the percent of tests returning positive results averaged over the last 7 days rose from 9.76% on Monday to 10.55% on Tuesday.
Facility-wide investigations, updated on Mondays by the County DPH, also increased compared with the past week. Educational Facilities increased by 7, and Long-term Care Facilities remained at 8. Additionally, the State DPH lists two non-healthcare workplaces with active investigations along with one “other” setting.

Vaccinations rates remain tepid in Sheboygan County. 20 more persons were added to the list of those having received at least one dose of vaccine since Monday, raising that total to 63,803, or 55.3% of the population. 57 more persons joined the ranks of the fully vaccinated, which now totals 61,132, or 53.0% of the county’s population.
Free vaccinations will be available during the Division of Public Health’s Walk-In Wednesday clinic between 9 AM and 4 PM. Anyone 12 years and older is eligible to receive the vaccine. Questions about vaccinations may be addressed to the COVID-19 vaccine hotline at 920-395-9890.
Also, free community testing will be conducted on Wednesday, October 6th in the parking lot of the Sheboygan County Aging and Disability Resource Center at 650 Forest Avenue in Sheboygan Falls. No appointment is needed and there’s no need for insurance or an ID card.
