As leaves fall from the trees, the City of Sheboygan has set a schedule to collect them with a different zone for each of the five weekdays.
Collections begin Monday, October 11th and will continue for six weeks, through Friday, November 19th. During that time only, City residents are allowed to rake leaf piles into the street gutter for easier and faster pickup by City crews. When you place leaves in the street, you should leave a space at the curb to allow water to flow. That will help prevent flooding from leaves clogging storm drains.
The Public Works Department is also encouraging alternative disposal by either mulching the leaves into the lawn as a natural fertilizer, or bagging the leaves for disposal at the drop-off site on New Jersey Avenue. City officials say these two steps will help reduce the huge volume of leavesin the streets that will fall for the next month.
