MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – Brandon Woodruff suffered another frustrating night as he pitched well but the offense struggled as the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 at American Family Field on Tuesday night.
Woodruff allowed only one run over six innings with 10 strikeouts. He also hit the 200 strikeout mark for the first time in his career.
But the offense only managed a single run in the 8th inning when Willy Adames had a sac-fly that scored Daniel Vogelbach. Kolten Wong had a double in the inning that just missed being a game-tying home run.
Jake Woodford pitched five scoreless innings and struck out five to get the win for St. Louis, which held Milwaukee to just four hits. Giovanny Gallegos added the save for the Cardinals. Tyler O’Neill and Tommy Edman each drove in runs for St. Louis, which has won 10 straight and 12 of their last 13.
Milwaukee has dropped three games in a row and their magic number to clinch the division remains at 3.
The two teams play again Wednesday night with pregame coverage on WHBL beginning at 6:05.
