
Mary Ann Grunewald, 89, passed away on September 6, 2021, at Sharon S. Richardson
Community Hospice Center in Sheboygan Falls.
She was born on March 30, 1932, in the town of Herman, to the late Ernst and Aurelia (nee
Klaves) Luecke. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1950. On December 06, 1952,
Mary Ann married Harvey Grunewald at Trinity Lutheran Church, where she had been both
confirmed and baptized as well. Mary Ann enjoyed sharing her faith and serving her Lord in
multiple ways at Trinity Lutheran Church, including being the organist for over 50 years, being a
Sunday School teacher, being a choir director, also involved in the Christian Woman's
Fellowship and making quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Throughout Mary Ann's lifetime she
had been employed at Franklin Mutual Insurance and Morningside Nursing Home but holding
various roles for over 23 years at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.
Mary Ann loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also
enjoyed gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, baking and cooking (especially German
potato salad and "pan cookies") for her loved ones, cross-stitching, playing cards and games,
having picnics with special friends and car rides with Harvey to see the fall colors and travel to
see family and friends.
Mary Ann is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Harvey Grunewald; their children,
Steve (Barb) Grunewald, Jan (Debbie) Grunewald and Laurie (Alan) Doty; grandchildren,
Michael Grunewald, Jason (Amanda) Grunewald, Douglas (Linnea) Grunewald, Mandy (Gordon)
Heffernan, Paul (fiancé Leah) Doty, Andy (Megan) Grunewald, Thomas (Sarah) Doty and
Matthew (fiancé Emily) Doty; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other family
and friends further survive.
Along with her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by a granddaughter Angela
Grunewald, her sister Virginia (William) Krupp and brother Carl Luecke and father and mother-
in-law Arno and Hertha Grunewald.
A Funeral Service for Mary Ann will take place at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 10, 2021, at
Trinity Lutheran Church, W2776 State Hwy. 32 in Howards Grove, with Rev. Bert Mueller
officiating. Family will greet visitors on Friday, at church, from 10:00 AM until the time of
service. Mary Ann will be laid to rest in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Those who choose to
