Since 2014, Big Brothers Big Sisters Wisconsin Shoreline has been able to operate its youth mentoring programs in Sheboygan and Manitowoc Counties thanks in large part to a major fundraiser that this year has fallen victim to the pandemic.
The annual “Chowdown”, an event sponsored by Johnsonville and featuring local amateur chefs grilling a wide variety of dishes along with a full cash bar, entertainment, and an auction, was slated to be held at Johnsonville’s Global Headquarters. Denise Wittstock, CEO of BBBSWIS said that the decision to cancel this year’s event was difficult to make, but it was the right thing to do for the health and well-being of everyone involved.
This is the second year the pandemic has impacted the fundraiser, which went hybrid in 2020 with both virtual and in-person participation. This year, the agency was hoping to raise $125,000, but that is now in doubt. The money would have funded programs and services to at least 280 at-risk youth including more than 75 who are on a waiting list.
Hopes now rest upon donations that can be made on the Big Brothers Big Sisters Wisconsin Shoreline Website. If you can help, you can make a secure donation to BBBSWIS here.
