SAN FRANCISCO, CA (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers started a four game series in San Francisco with a 3-1 win over the Giants on Monday night.
The Giants were in scramble mode on the mound after Alex Wood and Johnny Cueto, the scheduled starters for the first two games of the series, tested positive for COVID-19. Jose Alvarez got the emergency start and didn’t make it out of the 2nd inning.
Corbin Burnes pitched six plus innings for the win and also had an RBI in the victory. Jace Peterson had a three hit game for the Crew. Omar Narvaez and Luis Urias had the other RBIs.
The Giants closed to within one run in the 7th inning with two men on and nobody out but Brad Boxberger worked out of the jam with no further damage. Devin Williams and Josh Hader worked scoreless innings with Hader earning his 28th save.
The Brewers extended their lead over the Reds to 9.5 games as Cincy lost to St. Louis.
Game two of the series is Tuesday night. Pregame coverage on WHBL begins at 8:10.
