Although 63 more tests received since Thursday by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health were positive for COVID-19, recoveries took the upper hand with 70 persons no longer affected by a coronavirus infection, and active cases dropped by 7 to 398. 14,712 persons in all have now had COVID-19 in Sheboygan County. 9 persons are currently hospitalized for the disease, as 4 were still recovering since Thursday, and 5 patients were admitted since then.
Sheboygan County is currently experiencing a “high” level of transmission. 10.14% of test returns are positive, and there is a 7-day case load of 212.42 per 100,000 persons. All but 5 counties in Wisconsin are a high level, with 1 at “moderate” and 4 at “substantial” transmission levels.
Sheboygan County reached the 50% fully vaccinated benchmark last Friday, and that increased to 50.2% as of Monday, equalling 57,916 persons. 61,261, or 53.1%, have received at least one dose of vaccine. Vaccination rates increased last week compared with the week previous, with 1,389 doses administered vs 1,159 respectively.
The Sheboygan Area School District will be holding a public input session and special meeting of the School Board at 6 PM Tuesday in the South High School Commons to consider changes to current policy. That policy now encourages, but does not require masking in school, but that could change based upon information from local, state and national health agencies, along with input received from the public during the session. Guidance from the Centers for Disease Control advises that all persons age 2 and older, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks indoors in K-12 school settings, and that children should return to full-time in-person learning with layered prevention strategies in place. Results of the meeting will be sent via email to families of the district prior to the first day of the new school year, Wednesday, September 1st.
