Joseph Philip Billmann, a gentleman and a scholar, passed away at Terrace Place Assisted Living Community in Sheboygan on August 25. 2021 after 95 “March Days.”
He was born at home to Joseph and Frieda Schieble Billmann, March 30, 1926, in Sheboygan. Joe attended Holy Name Grade School and graduated from Central High School before serving in the U.S. Army in Germany in WWII. He then completed a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. There he met his lifetime love Mary L. Henning, and they married June 27, 1953.
Joe and Mary lived in Chicago for many years where Joe worked as an underwriter for Kemper Insurance until his retirement. During their years together Joe and Mary loved to travel all over the world, including Europe, Africa and the Middle East. They also enjoyed visiting all the U.S. state capitols, attending the theatre, reading and sharing books, and celebrating Brat Days with family here in Sheboygan. Joe especially enjoyed researching family genealogy, tennis tournaments, politics, and playing cards.
Joe is survived by niece Kathleen Buskirk, Denver, CO, and nephew Steven (Nancy) Mannchen, Sheboygan, WI. He is also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, sisters Jeanette Wolf and Marianne Mannchen; nephews James Wolf and Michael Mannchen, and niece JoAnne Mannchen.
According to his wishes there will be no services or visitation.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and caregivers at Terrace Place and St. Croix
Hospice Care for their kindness to Joe and his family.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Joe’s
arrangements.
