The impact of the highly-contagious Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is unmistakeable in both Sheboygan County and state trends per data released Monday by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
Active cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County increased by 32 over the weekend, going from 85 cases on Friday to 117 reported on Monday, equaling the number last reported on May 13th of this year. The 7-day average of new daily confirmed cases has now increased to 15. 14,058 cases in all have been recorded here during the pandemic. Three of the active cases now require hospitalization.
Wisconsin is also seeing an upward trend in the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19. The 7-day average of new cases has now reached 797, and on Sunday 486 new cases were added.
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Sheboygan County is now experiencing a “substantial” level of community transmission based upon information covering 7 days from Monday, July 26 through Sunday, August 1st. At this level, guidance recommends that even fully-vaccinated individuals should wear a mask in public indoor settings in order to limit the transmission of the Delta variant of the coronavirus. This is especially relevant if persons are immunocompromised or at increased risk for severe disease from COVID-19, or if they have someone in their household who is so predisposed or not fully vaccinated.
