PITTSBURGH, PA (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers took the first game of a three-game series at Pittsburgh Tuesday night, shutting out the Pirates 9-0.
Omar Narvaez and Rowdy Tellez hit home runs for the Brewers, while Lorenzo Cain and Avisail Garcia also plated runs.
Brett Anderson earned the win after tossing six scoreless innings.
It was a rough night for Pirates’ pitcher Luis Oviedo. The right-hander gave up eight runs – six earned – in an inning-plus of work.
Ben Gamel and Jacob Stallings each had a pair of hits — the only hits for the Pirates in the game. Pittsburgh has lost two straight.
The series continues Wednesday night with pregame coverage on WHBL beginning at 5:30.
Meanwhile, Christian Yelich was placed on the COVID-19 injured list on Tuesday after testing positive. Yelich started developing mild symptoms despite being fully vaccinated. The Brewers’ flight to Pittsburgh was delayed for players and staff testing and contact tracing.
Jace Peterson was also placed on the COVID injured list due to contact-tracing protocols.
Yelich will miss at least 10 days and Peterson will miss at least seven days.
