A block of St. Clair Avenue in downtown Sheboygan will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning Thursday afternoon, setting the stage for a so-called “Parklet”.
Sheboygan Director of Public Works David Biebel says that the 1-block stretch between 8th and 9th will become a temporary public gathering space, with features such as seating, bicycle racks and landscaping. The idea is to re-image the area in hopes of attracting more people that use non-motorized transportation, make it more attractive to pedestrians and support local businesses while enhancing the public space.
The change won’t be permanent – the parklet will be available only until November 15th this fall. But in the meantime, those wishing to sit down, have a bite to eat or sip a drink in the outdoors will be able to do so on the street between Paradigm Coffee & Music and the 8th Street Ale Haus.
