(WHBL) – In the first weekly update since discontinuing a daily schedule, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health reported on Thursday that 8 new cases of COVID-19 had been recorded since last week Friday, and a total of 13,885 cases were logged in the county for the pandemic to date. With the new data supplied on Thursday, the two deaths we reported earlier this week without information could now be identified as persons in their 70s. Thirty-five of the 149 confirmed county deaths were in that age group, while seventy-seven were at least 80 years old; twenty-three were in their 60s, five each were in their 40s or 50s, three were in their 30s and one was between 10 and 19 years old.
Active cases had decreased by 11 to 30, and 5 persons had become hospitalized for treatment in the last week.
Statewide 397 new cases were added in the last week, with a total of 612,445 cases recorded. Total confirmed deaths number 7,273, an increase of 38 since last Friday, while 819 deaths were listed as “probable” due to COVID-19.
Vaccinations are still struggling to reach goals. As of Thursday, 49.8% of the state’s population had received at least one dose, amounting to 2,901,231 persons. 45.6%, or 2,657,280 have been fully vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
In Sheboygan County, 48.2%, or 55,595 residents have received at least one dose, while 44.5%, or 51,353 are fully vaccinated.
Sheboygan County is now experiencing a “medium” activity level based upon 2-week data, with a “moderate” burden rate of 24.9 cases per 100,000 persons, and no significant change in trajectory.
There are currently five facilities in Sheboygan County with active investigations according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
