Fentanyl
The Sheboygan Police Department is reporting a surge of suspected drug overdoses in the community. On Wednesday afternoon, the SPD says that the department responded to three likely overdose cases within 24 hours, one of which led to the death of a 30-year-old Sheboygan woman.
Officers conducting the investigations have reported encountering various illegal drugs with fentanyl or suspected fentanyl mixed in. Fentanyl is a highly potent opioid that is blamed for many overdose deaths around the world, and the discovery of the drug mixed with others including meth, cocaine, and heroin extends the risk of overdose to those who use the other illegal drugs.
The Sheboygan Police Department is encouraging those who suffer from substance abuse disorder to take the tough step of seeking treatment, and if you know someone who suffers from drug abuse that you learn the signs of an overdose and how to respond in the event it happens. That includes learning how to give Naloxone, also known as Narcan, to counteract the overdose. Also, if you suspect someone is suffering an overdose, call 911 immediately, as just a few seconds can make the difference between life and death.
